| Mrs. Kerstin Oetjen was born in Hameln on 26 July 1958. She studied law, philosophy and music in Frankfurt am Main and did scientific work for the Chair of Criminal Law and Criminology of Prof. Lüderssen already as a student. She made scientific contributions to the following works of Prof. Dr. Lüderssen: Commentary on the provisions of criminal defence in Großkommentar zur Strafprozess- ordnung Loewe-Rosenberg as well as the Monograph on Regierungskriminalität (Government Crime) published by Suhrkamp.
During her period of practical legal training after the First State Examination in law Mrs. Oetjen also worked for the Chair of Prof. Lüderssen, where she is presently doing her doctoral thesis.
After passing the Second State Examination in Frankfurt am Main Mrs. Oetjen worked in the Law Office of Prof. Dr. Rainer Hamm in Frankfurt am Main as research assistant and lawyer with the practice areas “criminal law relating to economic and environmental offences and law of appeal”. As research assistant Mrs. Oetjen was in charge of the new edition of the legal standard work “Die Revision in Strafsachen” by Sarstedt/Hamm.
From 1995 -1997 Mrs. Oetjen was employed as defence lawyer in the office of the lawyer and notary public Bertram Börner in Hanover, where her practice areas were mainly criminal law relating to economic and fiscal offences as well as medical malpractice. Moreover she was entrusted with cases before the Schwurgericht (court sitting with 3 professional and 2 lay judges) and with the defence in cases relating to disciplinary law, civil service law, professional law of lawyers, tax consultants and physicians.
From 1997 – 1999 Mrs. Oetjen worked in the Law Office of Rainer Endriß in Freiburg, where she was mainly responsible for the defence in offences against the Narcotics Act.
In January 1998 she was awarded the qualification “Fachanwältin für Strafrecht” (Specialist in Criminal Law).
In September 1999 Mrs. Oetjen set up her own law office in Freiburg-Wiehre, She specializes in criminal defence and works throughout Germany in this field and the secondary fields of criminal law. She also represents her clients before the European Commission on Human Rights in Strasbourg and the Court of Justice of the European Communities in Luxembourg.
Her main areas of practice are criminal law relating to medical malpractice, environmental, economic and fiscal offences.
Mrs. Oetjen contributed articles to the law journal Strafverteidiger etc.. The Deutsche Anwalt Verlag published a guide on detention pending trial under the title “Leitfaden zur Untersuchungshaft” worked out by her and Rainer Endriß as co-authors for clients and their families, which was translated into 7 languages. September 2002 Otto Schmidt Verlag has published a handbook on criminal law for lawyers, for which Mrs. Oetjen wrote the chapter “Criminal law relating to sexual offences” together with the lawyer Dr. Malek.
For many years Mrs. Oetjen has held seminars at the J.-W.-Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main teaching advanced students in the subjects Criminal Law and Law on Criminal Procedure.
She speaks English and French and lived several years abroad.
Mrs. Oetjen is a member of Deutscher Anwaltsverein, its study group on criminal law and Baden-Württembergischer Strafverteidiger e.V.
